Personal Accident FAQ
What is Chubb Personal Accident Insurance (PAL Protect® II)?
Chubb PAL Protect II provides you and your family with financial protection against accident-related injuries, disabilities and up to 14 specified infectious diseases.
What is the accidental death benefit?
In the event of accidental death, a lump sum of up to SGD 1,000,000 is payable to your estate. If the accident occurs while travelling on public conveyance (e.g., train, bus, ferry), this benefit is doubled.
What medical expenses are covered?
You’re reimbursed for medical treatment costs arising from accidental injuries, including fees charged by alternative medical practitioners such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) doctors or chiropractors.
How does daily income relief work?
If you’re hospitalised due to an accidental injury, you can receive up to SGD 300 per day in out-of-pocket cash benefits to help cover incidental expenses during your stay.
What happens in the case of accidental permanent disability?
A lump sum payout of up to SGD 1,000,000 is provided if you suffer permanent disablement from an accident. This also includes coverage for modification and mobility expenses (e.g., wheelchair modifications).
Which infectious diseases are covered?
The policy covers 14 infectious diseases, such as Dengue Fever, Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease (HFMD), and food poisoning, among others.
Are my dependents covered automatically?
Yes. For a Couple Plan, up to four dependent children are automatically covered at no extra premium.
Does the policy cover alternative medical treatments?
Yes. Treatment by qualified alternative medical practitioners—including TCM practitioners and chiropractors—is reimbursable under the accidental medical expenses benefit.
What kinds of accidents are covered under PAL Protect II?
The plan covers sudden, unforeseen bodily injuries such as slips and falls, road-traffic accidents, burns, electrocution and drownings. It also provides a lump-sum benefit for 14 specified infectious diseases (e.g. Dengue, HFMD).
Am I eligible to apply if I’m over 65 (or under 18)?
Adults aged 18–65 can apply for the standard plan. Dependent children from 30 days to 21 years old are covered under a Couple or Family Plan. Applicants over 65 may be eligible for a senior personal-accident plan subject to underwriting.
Are there any exclusions—like hazardous sports or pre-existing conditions?
Yes. Exclusions include professional participation in motor-racing, skydiving, scuba-diving beyond recreational limits, war, self-inflicted injuries, and any accident arising from pre-existing medical conditions not declared at application.
How does this plan differ from standard health or life insurance?
Personal-accident insurance pays benefits only for accidents (and specified infectious diseases), with lump-sum payouts for death/disability and daily hospital cash. Health insurance covers a wider range of medical treatments for illness, and life insurance pays on death from any cause.
Which family members can I include, and at what extra cost?
You can insure a spouse and up to four dependent children under a Couple or Family Plan. Spouse coverage is charged at a percentage of the primary adult premium; children are typically covered at no additional premium under the Couple Plan.
What’s the process and turnaround time if I need to make a claim?
You’ll need to submit a completed claim form, medical reports, hospital bills and receipts within 30 days of treatment. Once all documents are received, claims are usually processed and paid within 7–14 business days.
How much will my premium be, and what payment options are available?
Premiums depend on your age, the sum assured you choose, and whether you select an Individual, Couple or Family Plan. You can pay annually, semi-annually, quarterly or monthly via GIRO, credit card or cheque.
When does coverage actually start after I sign up?
Coverage begins one day after we receive your first premium payment and issue your policy documents, provided any required health declarations or medical checks are completed.
Can I adjust my coverage limits later (e.g., increase the accidental death benefit)?
Yes—at each policy renewal you can apply to increase your sum assured. Any increase is subject to underwriting approval and an adjusted premium.
What documentation do I need to submit with my application?
You’ll need a completed proposal form, a copy of your NRIC or passport, proof of address (e.g., utility bill), and any medical reports if you’re applying for higher coverage amounts.
Is there a free-look or cooling-off period if I change my mind?
Yes—once you receive your policy documents, you have a 14-day free-look period to review and cancel for a full refund of premiums paid, minus any medical expenses already incurred.
How do I add or remove dependents from my policy?
Submit an endorsement request before your next renewal date. To add a spouse or child, you’ll need to provide proof of relationship; changes take effect once approved.
Can I manage my policy and file claims online or via an app?
Absolutely. Policyholders can log in to the Chubb eService portal or use the Chubb mobile app to view policy details, download documents and submit claims digitally.
Is there a waiting period before coverage becomes effective after my first premium?
For accidental injuries, coverage starts the day after we receive your first premium. For the 14 specified infectious diseases, there’s a 14-day waiting period from policy inception.
Are optional riders available (e.g., enhanced medical expense, emergency evacuation)?
Yes. You can add riders such as Enhanced Accident Medical Expense (higher reimbursement limits), Emergency Medical Evacuation (worldwide evacuation assistance), and Hospital Cash Extension for additional daily benefits.
Does the plan cover injuries sustained while travelling overseas or on business trips?
Absolutely. PAL Protect II provides worldwide coverage (except in countries under travel advisories). Just notify us of any planned travel over six months for continued overseas protection.
What is the maximum age for new applicants, and can I renew past that age?
New applicants must be between 18 and 65. The policy is then guaranteed renewable up to age 65, subject only to premium adjustments—not to new health checks.
Are there any premium discounts for non-smokers, multi-policy holders, or longer-term commitments?
Yes—non-smokers receive a 10% discount, multi-policy holders (with other Chubb plans) get 5% off, and if you pay annually for two or more years in advance, you save an extra 5%.
Is coverage guaranteed renewable regardless of future health changes?
Yes. As long as you pay your premiums on time, we cannot cancel your policy due to changes in health. Premiums may be adjusted for the overall block of business but not your individual health status.
What’s the grace period if I miss a premium payment?
There’s a 30-day grace period. If you pay within that window, coverage continues uninterrupted. After 30 days, the policy will lapse and claims won’t be payable.
Are there sub-limits or caps on specific benefits (e.g., daily hospital cash, mobility aids)?
Yes. Daily hospital cash is capped at SGD 300/day for up to 90 days per accident; mobility aid expenses (e.g., wheelchair modifications) are capped at SGD 20,000 per policy year.
How are sum assured levels determined—can I pick any amount up to the maximum?
You can choose any sum assured between SGD 100,000 and SGD 1,000,000 in increments of SGD 50,000. Your premium is then calculated based on age, plan type, and chosen sum assured.
Can I switch between Individual, Couple and Family Plans mid-term, and how does proration work?
You may upgrade or downgrade at any time. We’ll calculate a prorated premium or refund based on the remaining policy term and new plan’s rate, then issue an endorsement.
What proof do I need if I file a claim overseas (e.g., translation of medical reports)?
Submit original hospital discharge summaries, receipts, and claim forms. If documents aren’t in English, provide a certified translation. All records must be stamped by the treating facility.
How does Chubb handle claim disputes or escalations if I’m unhappy with an outcome?
First, you can request an internal review by our Claims Quality team. If still unresolved, you can escalate to the Insurance Ombudsman Scheme or the Singapore Financial Dispute Resolution Centre.
Can I pay premiums via GIRO from overseas-issued bank accounts or only local banks?
GIRO payments must be from a Singapore-issued bank account. If you bank overseas, you can use credit card, cheque or telegraphic transfer—just let us know so we can provide the correct bank details.
Does the policy include a terminal illness or rehabilitation support benefit?
Terminal illness is not covered under standard PA. However, you can add a Rehabilitation Support rider that reimburses up to SGD 10,000 for physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or counselling after a disabling accident.
If I cancel mid-term, is there a refund of unused premium (pro-rata)?
Yes. If you cancel before renewal, we refund the unused portion of your premium on a pro-rata basis, less an administration fee of SGD 50.
