Card Limits, Controls & Temporary Locks
Having full control over your debit and credit cards is an important part of managing your finances and protecting your account. Our digital banking channels allow you to customise your card limits, enable or disable specific transaction types, and temporarily lock your card — all in real time. This guide explains the controls available to you and how to use them.
Understanding Your Card Limits
Every card is issued with default transaction limits to balance convenience and security. These limits apply on a daily basis and reset at midnight each day. The following table outlines the default limits for each card type:
| Limit Type | Standard Debit Card | Platinum Debit Card | Credit Card (All Tiers) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily ATM withdrawal | $2,000 | $5,000 | $1,000 (cash advance) |
| Daily POS purchase | $5,000 | $10,000 | Up to available credit limit |
| Daily online transaction | $3,000 | $5,000 | Up to available credit limit |
| Per-transaction contactless | $200 | $200 | $200 |
| Daily overseas spending | Disabled by default | $5,000 | Up to available credit limit |
You can adjust these limits at any time to suit your needs. For example, you might want to temporarily increase your online transaction limit before making a large purchase, or reduce your daily ATM withdrawal limit for added security during travel.

- Open the mobile app and log in
- Navigate to "Card Management" from the main menu or tap on the card icon on your dashboard

Limit Ranges
You can set limits within the following ranges through digital channels:
| Limit Type | Minimum | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Daily ATM withdrawal | $0 (effectively disables ATM withdrawals) | $10,000 |
| Daily POS purchase | $0 | $20,000 |
| Daily online transaction | $0 | $10,000 |
| Per-transaction contactless | $0 | $500 |
If you require limits above the maximum available through self-service channels, please contact customer service or visit a branch. Higher limits may require additional verification and approval.
Transaction Type Controls
Beyond adjusting limits, you can enable or disable entire categories of transactions for each card. This gives you granular control over how your card can be used:
- ATM withdrawals: Turn off cash withdrawals entirely if you primarily use your card for electronic payments
- Online / e-commerce transactions: Disable online payments when not actively shopping to reduce fraud risk. Enable when needed
- Contactless payments: Toggle tap-to-pay on or off. Useful if you prefer to always enter your PIN for transactions
- International transactions: Enable overseas spending only when you are travelling and disable it upon return. This is one of the most effective measures against international fraud
- Recurring payments / subscriptions: View and manage all active recurring charges linked to your card
All toggles are available in the "Card Controls" section of the mobile app and internet banking. Changes take effect instantly and apply to all future transactions.
Temporary Card Lock
The temporary lock feature allows you to freeze your card instantly without permanently cancelling it. This is ideal when you have misplaced your card and want to prevent any transactions while you search for it.
What the Temporary Lock Does
- Blocks all new transactions including ATM, POS, online, and contactless payments
- Declines any new authorisation requests from merchants
- Pauses recurring payments and subscriptions linked to the card
- Does not affect transactions that were authorised before the lock was applied — these will still settle normally
- Does not cancel the card — your card number, expiry date, and CVV remain unchanged
How to Lock and Unlock Your Card
Locking and unlocking your card can be done in seconds through the mobile app or internet banking:
- Go to "Card Management" and select the card
- Toggle the "Lock Card" switch to the on position
- The card status will change to "Locked" and you will receive a confirmation notification
- To unlock, simply toggle the switch back to the off position and verify with biometric authentication or OTP
There is no time limit on how long a card can remain locked. It will stay frozen until you choose to unlock it or report it as lost/stolen. If you find your card, simply unlock it and resume using it normally.
Locked Card vs. Reported Lost/Stolen
| Feature | Temporary Lock | Reported Lost/Stolen |
|---|---|---|
| Card can be reactivated | Yes — unlock at any time | No — card is permanently blocked |
| Replacement card issued | No | Yes — automatically |
| Card number changes | No | Yes — new card number issued |
| Digital wallet impact | Payments paused temporarily | Card removed — must re-add new card |
| Recurring payments | Paused — resume when unlocked | Must update to new card details |
Travel Notifications
If you plan to travel overseas, we recommend enabling international transactions and submitting a travel notification through the mobile app or internet banking. A travel notification informs our fraud monitoring systems that transactions from specific countries during your travel dates are expected and should not be flagged.
To set a travel notification, go to "Card Management," select "Travel Notification," enter your destination country or countries, and specify your travel dates. You can notify us up to 30 days in advance and the notification can cover a trip of up to 90 days.
Real-Time Transaction Alerts
For full visibility over your card usage, we recommend enabling transaction alerts. You can receive instant notifications for every transaction, only transactions above a specified amount, international transactions, or online transactions. Alerts are sent via push notification, SMS, or email based on your preferences. Configure your alerts under "Notification Preferences" in the mobile app or internet banking settings.
If you notice any suspicious or unauthorised transactions, lock your card immediately using the temporary lock feature and contact our fraud hotline at 1800-XXX-XXXX.
